We’re over the moon to announce that Story of Marie — the documentary I created about my grandmother — has been picked up by WHRO Public Media for broadcast and streaming across Hampton Roads under a three-year contract (2026–2028)!
What started as a deeply personal project made just for our family quietly grew into something bigger. My grandmother, the matriarch of our family, lived a life defined by quiet strength, resilience, sacrifice, and grace. Her story speaks for an entire generation of women whose steady contributions often go unspoken.
This film is especially meaningful to me because it was my very first full documentary, where I handled every part of the process myself — concept, filming, cinematography, and editing. It was a huge milestone, and I’m incredibly proud of it.
None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of my husband and creative partner, Chris (@crspez). I’m so grateful to have him by my side.
We’re especially excited that WHRO — our local public media station here in Hampton Roads — has selected the film. Even better, it will also be shared more broadly on the PBS streaming platform, allowing Marie’s story to reach audiences well beyond our region.
I’m deeply honored that her wisdom and spirit will now touch more hearts. Her life is a beautiful reminder that some of the most powerful stories are lived quietly.
Watch Story of Marie now on PBS:
We’d love for you to watch and share it with your family!
With gratitude,
Amy❤️
